Musical Community

I love when bands of different genres play shows together. We’re all a part of a community.

Also, my last post has nothing to do with The Transgenic Organisms.

Something

I’m working something that I’ve thought about doing for a while now. It may be cool or it may turn out to be really lame. I’ll post more as soon as everything is ready.

It’s been a whirlwind of good and bad news for the last twenty-four hours. Tom Gabel, North Carolina, Obama. We’ve seen some real bright spots in humanity, people showing courage to stand up for themselves and others. We’ve all seen some really cruel moments in human history, where we as a…

“Things I Shouldn’t Say” Track by Track

1. No, I’m not Alright. No, I’m not Alright.

2. Attention. It’s about a kid who went to college and found what he was he looking for. Then he became a dick…or more of a dick.

3. Dreams. This song is about realizing some things in life and knowing what I like/don’t like, am scared of/not scared of and so on. Repetitive situations took a lot out of me and the weather didn’t help.

4. Waking. I was pretty upset when I realized I was awake every morning for a period of time last year. I immediately started many days depressed.

5. Free Man. It’s sort of about the dorm that I live(d) in at ISU named Freeman Hall. It’s also about hating college and some people but accepting that they’re in my life. The song has one of my favorite lines on the record in it; “it doesn’t matter how hard I try, I still hate your name a little less than mine.” I realized that I didn’t much care for myself or the way I was and that I in fact cared less for myself than many people I dislike.

6. 140 Characters. This song is about how we all feel braver in front of an illuminated screen as opposed to looking someone in the face. It’s easier to say mean and hurtful things when you don’t have to see someone’s facial expression change in front of you.

7. Those Words. Words can hurt a lot. I feel like I lost a lot of people last year and they’re probably never coming back.

8. Caved. This is about the people around me changing and me being influenced by that. It doesn’t sit well with me.

9. Familiar Scenes and Settings. The events discussed in this song all happened in Oskaloosa. I’m supposed to feel safe and comfortable when I’m home. These were life changing and upsetting events that really took a toll on me. Being away from home a little has really brought a new found appreciation for it and that makes me feel better.

10. Things I Shouldn’t Say. As I mentioned earlier, I feel like I lost a lot of people last year and maybe that was ok.

11. Outside My Window. I had to ask myself what felt wrong and what felt right so many times last year. I was so blind by my struggles that I didn’t even notice the people offering support.

Thanks.
